After a destination has been entered on an automotive device, it may sometimes display the message, "Route Memory Full" or "Route Calculation Error: Not Enough Memory Available."

These messages appear when the device has reached its maximum available memory for the route that is being calculated.

Each turn in a route is stored in the device's memory. Once the memory of the device is full, it can no longer continue calculating and will display one of the above error messages. To best resolve this issue, break the route into two or more smaller routes.

For example, if you are entering a cross-country trip, create a route for each day of travel instead of plotting in one long, continuous route.

If the route is already fairly short and the device should have sufficient memory to calculate it in its entirety, these messages may appear due to out-of-date software. To correct this, please download Garmin Express and follow the on-screen prompts to complete a software update: http://www.garmin.com/express

If the message persists after a software update, you may need to delete archive files on your device.

Devices that record a trip log will archive these tracks or trip logs. If you travel across great distances, these files can end up being quite large. To delete archive files on your device:

Windows:

Connect the device to a computer
Click on the Start button
Click on My Computer or Computer
Double click to open the Garmin or Garmin nuvi drive
Open the GPX folder
Some devices will require you to open the Garmin folder or a folder entitled Internal Storage first
Open the Archive folder
Delete the contents of this folder
Mac

Connect the device to a computer
Double click to open the GARMIN drive
Open the GPX  folder
Some devices will require you to open the Garmin folder first
Open the Archive folder
Delete the contents of this folder
Empty the contents of the Trash
The archive files will now be deleted.
